Illustrations are not only the enticement to get children to read their first books, but also a way to help visualize what an explanation of words may not be able to "illustrate." Seeing is believing, and believing is enjoying illustrations.

Many of us, if not most of us are visual creatures. Well written words can do a great job of creating an individual vision in our individual minds, but an illustration can leave a visual impression that is the same vision for everyone who sees it.
